The first night without pain, but not exactly peaceful! I received my last daily dose of antibiotics around 10:45 pm. Usually, it takes 30 to 45 minutes for the flask to empty. Around midnight, the night nurse came to disconnect the catheter and noticed the flask wasn’t empty, but the liquid was no longer flowing into my vein. She tried flushing the catheter and reconnected the antibiotic. Half an hour later, she realised some of the fluid had leaked into the dressing instead of going into the vein. The catheter was then removed, and a new dressing applied. The nurse was frustrated because she had already reported this problem the previous night, but no action had been taken.

I woke around 6 am, and the usual routine started: blood pressure, pulse, and temperature checks. My surgeon came to see me and confirmed that I should be able to leave the hospital on Monday morning.

Shortly after, his assistant came to change the dressing and disinfect the scar. Everything looked perfect: the wound was clean, with no swelling or blistering. She scheduled a follow-up appointment for 8 November, when they will remove the stitches, change the bandage, and replace the cast.

Breakfast, then a shower.

Friday being fish day, I had salmon for lunch. After the meal, I dozed off a little before my mother’s visit.

The day ended on a high note: I will now be taking my antibiotics in tablet form, no more drips needed.
