I woke up around 5 this morning with pain in my foot. Since I’d been advised to call if I was in pain, I contacted the nurse, who gave me Oxynorm, the same painkiller as the night before. Around 6 am, I took my usual pain medication. So, the night wasn’t very restful.

At 7, the shift change took place, and the new nurse carried out the usual checks: pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, all normal.

Around 8, breakfast and the newspaper were brought to me. The nurse helped me get ready for a shower, as since Tuesday morning I’d only been washing in bed. That shower felt wonderful. Unfortunately, the cast’s waterproof covering wasn’t sealed properly, so after the shower it was a bit damp. They had to remove it to let it dry.

At 10, the physiotherapist came to assess my ability to walk with crutches and to go up and down stairs. I passed the exercises!

The medical team arrived around 5 pm. The good news is that the biopsy results are negative. They’re still analysing the cultures, as no one wants to take any risks. It seems likely I’ll be able to go home on Monday, but that will be confirmed on Saturday. I’ll need to continue the antibiotic treatment for at least 10 days after discharge.

Dinner will be served soon, followed by the evening medications, including a dose of antibiotics via drip. I hope to get a good night’s sleep tonight!

The X-rays look a bit better; I received the images. The plate fixing the tibia, fibula, and ankle, held by eight screws, should hold well this time.
