Last Friday, I received an email from KPT informing me that they would be reassessing the entire situation, but that it would take some time. Could this be a reaction to the letter I sent to the Chairman Board of Directors of KPT?

In the meantime, KPT also told me they would no longer reimburse my taxi rides to the hospital, claiming I had already reached the maximum limit of 500 CHF. Surprised, I checked all the receipts, made a summary, and the total came to 380 CHF, not 500! I pointed this out to KPT, and they replied that they would look into it… None of the claims or invoices I’ve sent have been processed without issues. It’s quite alarming that a company can show such incompetence!

Yesterday, I received the bill from the TCS, which covers:

  • Ambulance transfer (VSL) within Switzerland

  • Medical repatriation and hotel stay in Casablanca

  • Repatriation by commercial fligh

  • Transport of the motorcycle and administrative fees

  • Taxi transfers between the hospital, hotel and airport

  • Administrative fees

The total came to 5,869.12 CHF, all fully covered by the TCS! Now that’s what I call exemplary customer service! For just 207.20 CHF per year, the ETI World package (with no deductible) offers far more comprehensive coverage than a standard travel insurance policy.

I had paid 50.50 CHF for two months with KPT, which works out to around 306 CHF per year with a deductible. Clearly, taking out travel insurance with KPT was a mistake. I didn’t realise the TCS also covers medical aspects and not just vehicles. I can only warmly recommend the TCS ETI policy, which is also available in Europe and family versions at even better rates.

On another note, my scar treatment is now complete. I was at the hospital this afternoon for the final time, and the wounds have healed well in the meantime. On Wednesday, I’ll have an X-Ray scan and see my surgeon again to discuss how the healing is progressing and the next steps. I’ll be getting a new cast as the muscle in my calf has shrunken quite a bit, and my foot has gone down in size, so the current cast has become too big.
