I’ve just come back from the orthopaedic shop where I tried on my new carbon prosthesis. What a pleasant surprise! It fits my leg, ankle, and foot perfectly.
That said, it’s clear I won’t be able to wear my usual shoes anymore. With the ankle widened by the prosthesis and the dislocation, my regular shoes no longer fit, so for the fitting, we had to use a specially adapted orthopaedic shoe.
I took my first steps without a cast or crutches! At first, I was a bit worried about losing my balance, but I quickly got used to it. The prosthesis gives me a great sense of security, and I think I’ll be able to walk for longer periods without any issues. It really feels like a new freedom opening up for me!
There are still a few adjustments to be made to the prosthesis and the shoe. In 10 days, I’ll go back for another fitting, and I hope to leave with my final prosthesis.
Looking ahead, I’ll need to find a solution for my footwear, especially for the left foot. Wearing two different shoes might look a bit odd…
