Casablanca – Geneva – Berne
My driver from yesterday, Mustafa, is due to pick me up at 10 a.m., so I have time to enjoy a leisurely breakfast before heading to the airport.
Right on time at 10 o’clock, Mustafa arrives in the Mercedes, and we set off for the airport. UMA (https://www.uma.ma/), the Moroccan agency handling all the arrangements, has everything covered! The car park is quite a way from Terminal 1. Mustafa pulls out a wheelchair and pushes me towards the terminal. Before entering, there’s a security checkpoint with a long queue. The atmosphere is emotional here, as it’s where families say their goodbyes.
Other passengers make room for us as we slip past the line. After checking in, I say goodbye to Mustafa, who is definitely not shy about receiving a tip 😊.
A Royal Air Maroc staff member then escorts me through customs, where I hand over the paperwork to export my motorbike, and through security. He leads me to the Business Lounge, where a breakfast is served.
At 12:15, he returns to collect me, and we cross the surprisingly large airport, which has flights to destinations all across Africa: Nouakchott, Brazzaville, Yaoundé, Bamako, Conakry, and more.
I’m escorted to my seat, 2D, and soon we take off. I leave behind this country that has given me so many unforgettable memories! Shortly after departure, a flute of Laurent Perrier is served alongside the menu. I choose the scallops paired with a glass of Moroccan white wine. We fly over the Strait of Gibraltar, cross Spain, pass the Pyrenees, and land in Geneva under a rainy sky.
A staff member from Cointrin airport meets me. We disembark through the service door and head straight to Swiss customs. Without luggage, I proceed directly to the exit, where someone is waiting for me again.
A minibus provided by the Touring Club Suisse, equipped with a stretcher, takes me home. I’m not that disabled, so I prefer to sit next to the driver. By 7:30 p.m., I’m finally back home.
The circle is complete!
